Outokumpu Americas, headquartered in Calvert, has been recognized for Best Operational Improvements by the American Metal Market. Pictured above is the melt shop. 

The Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station’s Gulf Coast Research and Extension Center has received the 2017 Best of Fairhope Award in the research services category by the Fairhope Award Program.

The BASF facility in McIntosh has won the Operational Excellence Leadership award, presented by Frost & Sullivan during the 13th annual Manufacturing Leadership Summit.

For a third consecutive year, Baker Donelson has been certified by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum as a Gold Standard Firm. In addition, the firm was named one of the 2017 Best Law Firms for Women by Working Mother magazine.

Books-A-Million is celebrating a century this year. Founded in 1917 as a street corner newsstand in Florence, BAM is now the second largest book retailer in the nation with more than 260 stores in 32 states and the District of Columbia.

Butler Snow has been named a Leading Core firm by BTI Power Rankings 2017: The Law Firms with the Best Client Relationships in 18 industries.

Hotel price platform HotelsCombined recently announced its Recognition of Excellence awards in Alabama. The finalist honors for Best Hotels in Metropolitan Area go to The Lattice Inn and Red Bluff Cottage Bed & Breakfast in Montgomery, and the winner was Fort Conde Inn in Mobile. Finalists in Alabama’s Best Small City Hotels category were Pursell Farms in Sylacauga and The Hotel at Auburn University in Auburn, and the winner was Hotel Finial in Anniston.

SNL Financial has ranked Jones Walker LLP third for bank and thrift merger deals based on the number of transactions the firm has handled in the first half of 2017.

Nationally telecast Today’s Homeowner is celebrating its 20th season. The Emmy-nominated show, based in Mobile, is seen in 110 million homes.

Turenne PharMedCo, a pharmacy and medical supply distributor based in Montgomery, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The University of North Alabama’s online Master of Business Administration degree program has been ranked first in the 10 best online executive MBA programs by onlinecoursereport.com. In addition, UNA’s Anderson College of Nursing posted the highest NCLEX pass rate out of all public universities in Alabama at 97.5 percent. The state average is 90.8 percent.

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham is celebrating its 30th annual Noojin and White Race to the Courthouse 5K on September 9. The race is the second oldest road race in the Birmingham community.

Calhoun Community College's bass fishing team finished the 2016-17 season ranked 11th in the nation by The Association of Collegiate Anglers, who manages the multifaceted Cabela's School of the Year annual rankings. Calhoun was the highest ranked two-year college. The listing includes both two and four-year schools.

Eldeco, an electrical design contracting company with a location in Pelham, was one of three companies nominated for the Southeast High Performing Health Plan Award at the 2017 Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. HPHP Summit. Eldeco has made significant changes to its benefit plans since 2009, including creating the wellness program, which encourages employees who have high-risk areas to make decisions towards living healthier lives.

Regitar USA Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The Montgomery-based company manufactures and distributes automotive electronics to the aftermarket.
