Warren Averett has named Mary Elliott CEO. Elliott succeeds Jim Cunningham, who is retiring at the end of 2017.

Jeff Newman, a retired superintendent of education of the Lamar County School System, has been appointed to the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees to replace Mary Scott Hunter.
Jacksonville State University alum Jeremy Straub has been named the founding associate director of the North Dakota State University's Institute for Cyber Security Education and Research.
J. Doug Barrett has been appointed the LaGrange Eminent Scholar of Business in the University of North Alabama College of Business.
Mark Patterson has joined Birmingham-based Southern Research’s Engineering Division, to lead business development efforts in the aerospace industry.
Thompson Engineering has named John Baker its new president and CEO. Baker has served as president since 2004. He succeeds Jimmy Shumock, who served as CEO for seven years. Shumock will now serve as transportation market leader.
Taylor Schmidt, with Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon Inc., is now a licensed professional engineer in Alabama.
Isaac Smith has joined PPM Consultants as manager of environmental compliance in the firm's Mobile office.
The Alabama Hospital Association recently installed Will Ferniany, of UAB Health System, as chairman; Owen Bailey, of University of South Alabama Health System, as chairman-elect; Luke Standeffer, of DCH Health System, as secretary/treasurer; and board members Andy Davis of St. Vincent’s Health System, Peter Selman of Baptist Medical Center South, and Suzanne Woods of Medical Center Enterprise. In addition, awards of service were presented to Ralph Clark – Gold Medal of Excellence, Keith Granger – American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion, Stan Hammack – 2017 Special Citation Award and David Spillers – Immediate Past Chairman.

Tim Smith has been named vice president of business development for defense and aerospace for ARCH Global Precision. Smith was formerly part owner of Smiths Machine in Cottondale, before it was sold to ARCH in 2015.
