Regions to pay $52M to resolve fed mortgage complaints

Alabama-based Regions Bank has agreed to pay more than $52 million to resolve allegations that it improperly handled mortgage loans, federal officials said Tuesday. The Birmingham-based bank was accused of handling mortgage loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration that failed to meet requirements designed to protect homeowners, the U.S. Department of Justice said. – AP/AL.com

VictoryLand casino rolling the dice once again

Google Fiber slowly rolling out in Huntsville

Northwest Huntsville could be the first part of the city offered Google Fiber high speed Internet services as early as summer 2017, Huntsville Utilities said Tuesday. Spokesman Joe Gehdres said crews began laying fiber optic cable this week in a subdivision at the corner of Winchester Road and Pulaski Pike. – AL.com

JSU enrollment up this year, reversing trend

Jacksonville State University enrollment is up 5.6 percent this semester over the fall term last year, reversing a five-year decline in students that hit a 15-year low last year. University numbers released today show JSU has 451 more students enrolled this year than last. – Anniston Star

Mercedes extends lead over rival BMW

Mercedes-Benz extended its global sales lead over rival BMW after its August registrations increased at a faster pace. Mercedes brand's worldwide sales rose 12 percent to 156,246 last month, while BMW brand sales increased 5 percent to 142,554 vehicles. – Automotive News

Redstone Federal CU donates $2.5M for libraries

Redstone Federal Credit Union has donated $2.5 million to help build new libraries in north and south Huntsville and Madison. The gift, which is the largest single donation in the library system's history, was announced recently in Huntsville. – News release
