Airbus aims for more market share with new plant

Airbus Chief Executive Officer Fabrice Bregier is laying plans to draw level with Boeing in the U.S., its rival’s home turf and the world’s largest aerospace market, starting with a new factory in Alabama. It’s an aggressive move, considering that the European plane maker controls only about 20 percent of the U.S. market. Senate OKs moving $100M from education budget

The Alabama Senate on Monday evening approved transferring about $100 million in tax revenue from the Education Trust Fund as part of a fix for the General Fund in 2016. The Senate voted 19-11 on the House Bill 30, which was going back to the House on Monday night. The Senate substituted the original House version of the bill, and the new version wasn’t immediately available. – TimesDaily

Birmingham getting upscale men’s apparel store

An upscale men's apparel store will soon open in the heart of downtown Birmingham. Ace Graham, 30, plans to open Alchemy on Sept. 22. The store will primarily sell men's apparel, but will also sell glasses, shoes, athletic clothing, art and lifestyle goods. The idea is a European-inspired clothing store. – AL.com

Budget work delayed for gay marriage worries

Alabama lawmakers are considering legislation to take the state out of the marriage business in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage. The House Judiciary Committee on Monday voted for a bill to do away with state-issued marriage licenses. Instead, couples would bring in a signed marriage contract and file it with the probate office. – AP/WDEF

Media outlets want Bentley divorce case unsealed

Media outlets asked a judge Monday to unseal the divorce case of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and first lady Dianne Bentley. A motion filed by a group of Alabama television stations and newspapers said the divorce, filed by the first lady in Tuscaloosa County, was sealed last month following a hurried hearing held without notice to the public. – AP/TimesDaily
