A month of achievements in Alabama business

On July 8, Medical Properties Trust Chairman, President and CEO Edward Aldag Jr. rang the New York Stock Exchange’s closing bell. Ten years ago, when it owned only 12 properties, the real estate investment trust began trading under the ticker symbol MPW. Today, Medical Properties’ portfolio consists of 175 properties worth a total of nearly $5 billion. 

Jefferson State Community College has been named a Great College to Work For, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. Only 86 of the 281 institutions that participated achieved the recognition and of those, only 24 were two-year colleges. Jefferson State was the only college from Alabama to make the grade.  

2B Solutions Inc., a Birmingham-based technology company, has renewed its certification status in the Microsoft Partner Network and achieved a Silver Customer Relationship Management competency. 

The Alabama Grocers Association is celebrating its 25th year. In addition to promoting the food industry in the state, the association formed the Alabama Grocers Education Foundation that has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships since it was started.   

Bryant Bank is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Since its start in 2005 in Tuscaloosa, the bank has grown throughout the state and recently launched its online banking platform, Bryant Bank Online. 

Montgomery-based Copperwing took the gold award in large exhibit design during the American Water Works Association Best of Show Competition at ACE15 in California. The exhibit for Tallassee-based Neptune Technology Group Inc. was among 515 that entered the competition. 

Keel Point LLC has been recognized in Financial Advisor’s 2015 annual RIA Survey & Rankings as one of the 50 Fastest-Growing Firms. It was ranked no. 2 in the list of 50 firms across the U.S. 

The Regions Tradition golf tournament in Birmingham announced that its Birdies for Charity fundraising program, sponsored by Red Diamond Inc., has raised a record $515,000 for local charities. 

Spicer’s Music LLC, in Auburn, has been named one of the Top 100 musical instrument and product retailers and the Best Emerging Dealer for 2015 by the National Association of Music Merchants. 

Trustmark Corp. has received the 2014 Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the Financial Services Roundtable. Trustmark has branches in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
