Sick kids flooding state’s ERs

Doctors started noticing an increase in children with severe colds and troubling breathing in mid-August, said Dr. Jason Richerson, medical director of USA Children's and Women's Evaluation Center in Mobile. MacLean closing Birmingham facility

MacLean Power Systems, a maker of insulation and hardware products used by utility companies, will close its Birmingham-based facility by Oct. 31, according to a news release. Approximately 75 employees will be laid off. – AL.com

Supreme Oil Co.-South cited by OSHA

OSHA said Thursday it cited condiments maker Supreme Oil Co.-South for almost $235,000 in penalties for failing to correct previously identified workplace hazards. The New Jersey-based company was cited for 14 safety and health violations following an inspection in March at the its facility in Brundidge. – NorthJersey.com

Home Depot data theft by ZIP

At least 23 of the 28 Home Depots in the state of Alabama were part of the breach that came to light last week. That number is expected to rise as more information becomes available. – AL.com

Technip wins Gulf drilling work

Technip was awarded by Deep Gulf Energy II LLC a lump sum contract for the development of the Kodiak field, located in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 727 and 771, in the Gulf of Mexico, at water depths ranging from 1,472 meters to 1,710 meters. – BusinessWire

Youfit has big plans for Alabama

The state's first Youfit in Huntsville hasn't opened yet, but the Florida fitness company is already scouting for additional locations in Alabama. Youfit, which plans to open a 14,000-square-foot club next week on 7900 Bailey Cove Road in the former Gold's Gym space, has opened 79 gyms across the U.S. – AL.com

Caleb Crosby named new API head

Caleb Crosby has been selected as the new President of the Alabama Policy Institute. Gary Palmer, the Republican Congressional Candidate for District 6, has stepped down in order to better prepare for the election on November 4. Crosby has served as API’s vice president and CFO for three and a half years. – News release
