Big Communications has been named Small Agency of the Year Southeast at the fifth annual AdAge Small Agency Conference and Awards. This honor comes in a pivotal year for Big that includes several major brand launches, a new office, significant employee growth and a record number of ADDY award wins.
The Birmingham chapter of the American Institute of Architects recently presented its 2013 awards. The following companies received Honor awards for their respective categories, with some receiving the awards in multiple categories: Williams Blackstock Architects, GA Studio, Dungan Nequette Architects and Live Design Group. The Merit winners in their respective categories were: bDot Architecture, Michael Gibson/Kyle D’Agostino, Design Initiative, Dungan Nequette Architects, Williams Blackstock Architects and Cohen Carnaggio Reynolds.
Baker Donelson, of Birmingham, has been ranked among the top 10 law firms in the country by Vault Inc.’s “Best Law Firms to Work For.” The ranking is based on feedback from law firm associates across the country who were asked to rank their firms on several quality-of-life categories.
DST Health Solutions LLC, a Birmingham-based provider of technology solutions and services, has passed its 2013 ISO re-certification audit with zero non-conformances. DST has been ISO 9001:2008-certified since June 2009.
Employee Fiduciary LLC, a Mobile-based independent 401(k) recordkeeper, announced that it is now servicing more than 2,000 plans, representing more than $2 billion in assets. Employee Fiduciary represents small and medium-sized businesses.
Hargrove Engineers + Constructors, of Mobile, has improved its standing in Engineering News Record’s Sourcebook. It was ranked in the top 20 in several industry categories, including sixth for Pulp & Paper, 11th in Chemical Plants, and 18th in Refineries and Petrochemical Plants.
Samford University’s Brock School of Business students scored higher than other students worldwide on the Bloomberg Aptitude test. Samford students outperformed their peers overall by 13 percentage points, or 58 to 45 percent, when all of the categories were averaged.
Troy University, the University of Montevallo and the University of North Alabama were named 2013 Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Wells Fargo & Co. was named the No. 1 corporate giver among U.S. companies for 2012, according to a survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Wells Fargo donated more than $315.8 million last year, including $3.6 million to Alabama non-profits.
