(Shown above) The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education has approved Alabama A&M University’s accreditation of its teacher education program, a part of the College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. In addition, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs staff at Alabama A&M has taken first prize in all major categories for the Association of Extension Administrators 1890 Award of Excellence. This was the first time that one 1890 institution won in all of the major program categories. The ACES also received first place in the Showcase of Excellence Poster Presentation Contest.
All Crane Rental of Alabama was presented with the Alabama Workplace Safety Award of Superior Achievement from the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations. The award was granted for “continuous operation without a lost time injury from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.”
Auburn University at Montgomery’s English as a Second Language program has been named the state’s only test center for the International English Language Testing System. In addition, it has become the only institution in Montgomery awarded membership to the American Association of Intensive English Programs.
The Alabama Cable Telecommunications Association recently recognized three of its members’ efforts. It presented Cable One, of Anniston, the 2012 Excellence in Cable Marketing Award. It named Comcast of Alabama the 2012 Excellence in Public Affairs award winner for Comcast’s humanitarian response to the April 27th, 2011 storms. It presented the 2012 Technical Excellence Award to Bright House Networks, of Birmingham, for its implementation of its same day/next day initiative and the 2012 Excellence in Cable Public Affairs Award for its hosting of C-SPAN’s Cities Tour.
Fite Building Co., of Decatur, has been named the 2012 General Contractor of the Year by the Alabama chapter of the American Subcontractors Association. In business since 1974, Fite was selected for its commitment to professionalism, safety and quality.
Hargrove Engineers + Constructors has ranked no. 175 in Engineering News Record’s Top 500 Design Firms. Hargrove made its debut on the ranking this year. The engineering firm has offices in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia.
Integrated Medical Systems International Inc., a surgical device management and consulting company in Birmingham, recently received an overall customer satisfaction score of 89 percent from its Net Promoter Score evaluation, conducted by Porter Research. The Net Promoter Score is a method of measuring potential growth based on customer feedback. IMS’ score ranks the company with Apple, USAA, Amazon and other world leaders in customer satisfaction.
Jones Walker Waechter Poitevent Carrère & Denègre LLP has been named to Corporate Counsel Magazine’s 2012 “Go-To Law Firms” list for labor and employment law. Firms on the list were selected from survey data collected from the general counsels of Fortune 500 companies and further research.
KC Projects, a public relations and branding firm in Birmingham, has been named a finalist by PR News’ Platinum PR Awards program in the pro bono campaign category for its work with the Shelby Humane Society. It is the only PR agency in Alabama to be named a finalist in this year’s platinum awards program.
M&D Mechanical Contractors Inc., of Decatur, recently has eclipsed the five-year mark without a single lost time accident. This time frame equates to more than 1.7 million employee-hours worked safely. For reference, the national average of lost time accidents for mechanical contractors in the construction industry is 1.7 per year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A technology company working in the healthcare field, Proventix captures hand-hygiene events around the clock, boasting the largest 24/7 hand-hygiene database.
Wallace State Community College’s Diesel Mechanics program, in Hanceville, recently was accredited by the National Automotive Technician’s Education Foundation, after a successful site visit. NATEF examines training programs and evaluates them against nationally accepted standards of quality.
