Buffalo Rock, Red Diamond will partner

Two Birmingham beverage giants have been competing for more than a century - but for the first time, the pair has formed a partnership. Buffalo Rock will begin distributing Red Diamond coffee and teas in three Southeastern states, ending a 30-year partnership with Jacksonville, Florida-based Maxwell House. – AL.com

Court collection company leaving Alabama

The private company that has been heavily criticized and targeted in several lawsuits for its practices collecting fines and fees for city courts in the state will reportedly cease operations in Alabama next month. A local representative of Judicial Correction Services notified Hartselle on Friday the company will pull out of the state Nov. 13, said Larry Madison, Hartselle’s city attorney. – Decatur Daily

State unemployment rate drops to 6 percent

Alabama's unemployment rate has dropped to 6 percent. The governor's office said Friday the seasonally adjusted jobless rate for September was 6 percent, down from the August rate of 6.2 percent. The number is a slight improvement from the same time last year, when Alabama's unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. Alabama is still well above the U.S. unemployment rate of 5.1 percent. – AL.com

Aston Martin to cut 295 jobs, still looking at state

Aston Martin has narrowed the list of potential sites for a new manufacturing plant and Alabama has made the list. The British automaker has tripled losses since 2013 by posting a pretax loss of a whopping £72 million for 2014. Aston Martin employs 2,100 people and the company has confirmed that as many as 295 jobs could be cut. – Rapid News Network

Senate leader talks closings, gaming proposal

The leader of the Alabama Senate said he doesn’t anticipate lawmakers taking action to reopen 31 driver’s license offices closed this month. “When you talk about right-sizing government and living within your means, it is not painless,” Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, R-Anniston, said last week. “You’re going to have to make some hard decisions and do what’s responsible.” – Decatur Daily

Publix will soon open 60th state location

Publix's 60th Alabama location will open Nov. 4 in Rainbow City at the Shoppes at Rainbow Landing. The grand opening is scheduled for 7 a.m. at the store at 3509 Rainbow Drive. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 6:45 a.m. with Rainbow City Mayor Terry John Calhoun. The store will be open until 10 p.m. – AL.com
