IMS expansion in Birmingham celebrated

Government and business leaders gathered Wednesday to celebrate Integrated Medical Systems' expansion in Birmingham. Mentor, Ohio's STERIS Corp. purchased Birmingham's Integrated Medical Systems in April as part of a $175 million deal. In the deal it acquired the 15-acre campus in the Sloss Business District, including the former U.S. Pipe headquarters building. – AL.com

Creek Casino Montgomery to expand

The Creek Casino Montgomery is launching a $65 million upgrade that will include a five-story hotel, a new events center and a full-service salon. It's bringing 100 new jobs with it. The Montgomery facility's sister locations in Atmore and Wetumpka have been designated AAA Four Diamond hotels, so expectations are high for the Capital City expansion. – Montgomery Advertiser

Griffith, Bentley tussle over TV spot

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Parker Griffith released a television spot Wednesday accusing Gov. Robert Bentley's son Paul of "earning vast profits" from a state fueling contract currently held by his company. The Bentley campaign sharply criticized the ad, saying that Warrior Energy, Paul Bentley's firm, inherited the contract from a company that merged with Warrior and that the firm has made less than $2,000 off the contract. – Montgomery Advertiser

Robert De Niro film in Mobile

Robert De Niro will star as Frank ‘The Pope’ in the movie Bus 657, which began filming on October 13th, in downtown Mobile. The thriller will be about a casino card dealer with a past, who puts a crew together to rob a bank and hijack a city bus as collateral. Yesterday, the movie was spotted shooting on the Causeway eastbound from the first entrance ramp east of the Bankhead Tunnel. – OnLocationVacations

Valdosta residents protest pipeline

A group of around 40 Valdosta and Lowndes County residents went to the Sabal Trail’s Valdosta office on Tuesday afternoon in protest of the group’s proposed pipeline. The group, many of which carried signs displaying their opposition to the pipeline, discussed the impact of a pipeline on the area. – Valdosta Daily Times

Worker’s Hyundai complaint may be a stretch

In a twist on the axiom that it pays to exercise, a production worker has filed a proposed class action that faults Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama for not paying workers enough for mandatory stretching and exercise sessions. Plant worker Frank Bates made the complaint in his Oct. 17 filing in U.S District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. – National Law Journal

Energen declares quarterly dividend

The Board of Directors of Energen Corporation on Wednesday declared a quarterly cash dividend of 2 cents per share payable December 1, 2014, to shareholders of record on November 14, 2014. Energen’s dividend historically has been supported primarily by the earnings of its natural gas utility at a payout ratio in keeping with the dividend practices in that industry. – Market Watch

BancorpSouth declares a dividend

At its regular quarterly meeting Wednesday, the Board of Directors of BancorpSouth, Inc. declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.075 per common share.  The dividend is payable January 2, 2015 to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 15, 2014. – PRNewswire/CNN
