Who's moving up?

Accounting

Warren Averett CPAs and Advisors has named April Harry as the firm’s new chief operations officer. Harry replaces Mary Elliott, who is transitioning to the CEO role.

Automotive

Danny Durbin, of Prattville, has been appointed chairman of the board of trustees for the Automotive Aftermarket Association Southeast Employee Benefit Fund.

Buck Buchanan has been promoted to president of Fontaine Fifth Wheel, the world’s largest dedicated fifth wheel manufacturer. In addition, Mike Randolph has been named vice president, sales and marketing; Aaron Puckett is vice president, regional sales, and Paige Petroni is vice president, aftermarket sales.

Mike King has joined AuburnBank as senior vice president of the Mortgage Lending Division.

Susan Calhoun has been named vice president and mortgage loan originator at NobleBank & Trust.

Regions Financial Directors Carolyn Byrd and John Maupin Jr. have been included on the 2017 Black Enterprise Registry of Corporate Directors.

Newcastle Homes has added Taneshia McGhee Pendleton as new sales agent for Riverbend at Old Cahaba in Helena, and April Knight as agent on site for Cheshire Parc in McCalla.

Ashley Wilbanks has been hired as marketing manager of Avadian Credit Union.

Education

Jeremy Straub, a Jacksonville State University graduate, has been honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Straub is an assistant professor at North Dakota State University and leads the OpenOrbiter Small Satellite Development Initiative.

The Alabama Community College System has appointed Michael “Mac” McDaniel as director of aviation programs.

Norman Crow, president of D.T. & Freight Co. Inc., has been appointed to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, representing Congressional District Seven.

David Bronner, CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, has been presented the International Economic Development Council’s Institutional Leadership Award.

Dara Longgrear has retired after 31 years as executive director of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority.

Jefferson Title Corp. has opened its second location in Trussville and chosen Amye von Seebach to lead the team as vice president of closing operations.

Food

Gemstone Foods LLC, a protein supplier in Decatur, has appointed Heath Loyd president and chief operating officer.

Government

Alabama Securities Commission Director Joseph Borg has been elected president of the North American Securities Administrators Association.

Hospitality

Craig Davis is heading up sales for Image Hotels, which operates six hotels in Alabama and Georgia, including the Hilton Garden Inn-Mobile West and the Springhill Suites by Marriott-Mobile.

Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC has added Angela Bongat as of counsel and associates Gabriella Alonso, Bridget Harris, Zachary Martin, Logan Matthews and Rachelle Sanchez. In addition, Samuel Franklin, of the firm’s Birmingham office, has been named president of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

John Ward Weiss, Davis Smith and Robert Gilpin, of Gilpin Givhan, have been selected for the 2018 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. In addition, Gregg Everett was named a Super Lawyer by Best Lawyers and a 2017 Elite Lawyer of the South by Martindale-Hubble.

Burr & Forman LLP has added Anna Akers, Jacob Burchfield and Miya Moore to its Birmingham office and Charles Davis III to its Tampa, Florida office.

Huie Partners De Martenson, Stan Cash and Alan Thomas were named a Local Litigation Star in Benchmark Litigation 2018.

William Horton, of Jones Walker, has received the Lawyer of the Year designation for 2018 from The Best Lawyers in America. In addition, Best Lawyers recognized Emily Sides Bonds, C. Ellis Brazeal III, Steven Casey, John Gant Jr., Mac Greaves, Michael Waters, Vernon Wells II and Paul Woodall Jr.

Marketing

Whittaker Marketing has added Melanie Hill to offer professional development seminars and one-on-one training.

Medical

Robert Russell has been named chief executive officer of HealthSouth’s future inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Pelham in Shelby County. The 34-bed hospital is expected to open to patients in spring 2018.

Southeast Alabama Medical Center has added general surgeon Suh Lim to Southeast Surgical Associates.

Technology

Phillip Long, founder and CEO of BIS Technology Group and owner of Business Information Solutions Inc., has completed cyber security training to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
