Auction of surplus nuke plant drawing interested bidders

An auction proposal for the mothballed Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in northeast Alabama could mean close to 1,000 jobs for the region. The proposal from Nevada-based Phoenix Energy outlines converting the plant in Jackson County into a clean energy producer that would produce electricity cheaper than the Tennessee Valley Authority – the federal utility that provides power for much of north Alabama and parts of six other states. – AL.com

Trump’s proposed tax breaks get scrutiny

For wealthy Americans, the outcome of the 2016 election could be lucrative. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton proposed hiking their taxes. Donald Trump, now the president-elect, proposed the opposite: $6.2 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade, according to the Tax Policy Center’s analysis, with the top 1 percent by income getting almost half the benefit. – Bloomberg

UA’s new MBA grads showing rise in salary rates

Graduates who completed MBAs from the University of Alabama in 2016 report starting salaries more than 8 percent higher than the previous year’s class. The Manderson Graduate School of Business in UA’s Culverhouse College of Commerce recently released both its 2016 MBA class compensation and placement data. – News release

RB Bancorporation merging into Trustmark

Trustmark Corporation and RB Bancorporation announced the signing of a definitive agreement pursuant to which RB Bancorporation would merge into Trustmark. RB Bancorporation, with assets of $210 million, is the holding company for Reliance Bank, which has seven offices serving the Huntsville. – News release

The Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders recently broke ground on its new headquarters, to be located at 241 International Park Place in Hoover. The construction should be complete in 18 to 24 months. – News release

Federal grant will build new taxiway at Huntsville International

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $9.6 million grant to Huntsville International Airport- Carl T. Jones Field to be used to improve infrastructure.  The grant will be used to construct a new parallel taxiway at the airport, with a projected completion date of August 2017. – Aviation Pros

Mixed-use development proposed for old newspaper site

A Huntsville developer is proposing a mixed-use development at the former Huntsville Times site on South Memorial Parkway. Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate briefly outlined the proposal on its blog Friday. According to the Crunkleton blog, the development would contain roughly 53,000 square feet of office and retail space. – AL.com
