Lockheed Martin wins $784M radar contract

Lockheed Martin has won a contract from the Missile Defense Agency to develop, build and test the Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR). The radar system will support a layered ballistic missile defense strategy to protect the U.S. from ballistic missile attacks. The nine-year contract, with options, will have the potential contract value of approximately $784 million. Work on the contract will be primarily performed in New Jersey, Alaska, Alabama, Florida, and New York. – PR Newswire

Evonik starts Mepron production in Mobile

Evonik announced Monday it has started Mepron production at its site in Mobile, putting the plant into service after 15 months. Mepron is a formulation of the amino acid methionine specially developed for dairy cows by Evonik's Animal Nutrition Business Line. The use of Mepron in dairy cow rations allows the amount of crude protein in feeds to be reduced, with no loss of output. – Feedstuffs.com

McWane opens new plant in Abu Dhabi 

Birmingham-based McWane Inc. opened its newest valve, fitting and plumbing manufacturing plant in Abu Dhabi on Monday. The opening of the $28 million Abu Dhabi facility, McWane’s fifth valve manufacturing plant and 27th manufacturing facility worldwide, establishes McWane’s local position in the Middle East. McWane is one of the largest privately owned companies in the USA, with more than 6,000 employees worldwide. – News release

Aderholt’s prayer trips draw scrutiny

House Agriculture Appropriations Chairman Robert B. Aderholt has broken bread for years at international prayer breakfasts, courtesy of trips paid for by a private foundation funded by an Arkansas poultry company. The Alabama Republican has visited Montenegro, Greece, Albania, Croatia, Colombia, Bolivia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Romania and Guatemala between 2008 and 2015 on the tab of the Fellowship Foundation. Total cost: $60,000, according to a blog post by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. – Sun Herald

Governor promising major Huntsville announcement

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is scheduled to announce what his office is calling a "major economic development project" for Huntsville this afternoon. Bentley will make the announcement from the state Capitol in Montgomery at 2 p.m. – WAAY

SSB acquires Columbus Community Bank

Southern States Bank recently announced it has acquired Columbus Community Bank located in Columbus, Georgia.  The acquisition of Columbus Community Bank will position Southern States Bank as the fourth largest bank in Muscogee County and Columbus and increase the bank’s total assets to over $500 million. – News release
