NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center has awarded Dynetics Technical Services the 2013 MSFC Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year Award, the highest small business award given by the local agency. The state of Alabama ranked fourth in Area Development’s fourth annual Top States for Doing Business survey of site consultants. Texas took top honors, followed by Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and North Carolina. Rounding out the top 10 were Louisiana (6th), Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi and California.
ALL Crane Rental of Georgia Inc., which has a location in Phenix City, has been presented the 2012 Award of Excellence from the Georgia Department of Labor in recognition of exceptional workplace safety. It is the second consecutive award for the Phenix City branch.
ASF Intermodal, headquartered in Mobile, has exceeded an industry milestone of having more than 200 trucks on the road, a gain of more than 50 trucks since the company’s second anniversary in February of this year. In addition, the company has expanded its operations to include over-the-road domestic services, which will be based in Atlanta.
Calhoun Community College’s Public Affairs, Community Relations and Special Events department received 11 awards during the Alabama Community College System Public Relations Association annual conference in September. Calhoun took home four first place Pyramid Awards, four Awards of Achievement and three Awards of Merit.
The Crawford Skinner Agency, of Springville, has been chosen to participate in the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America “Best Practices” Study Group. Of the 1,100 agencies nominated, only 216 qualified to participate. The agency will retain its “Best Practices Agency” designation during the three-year cycle by submitting extensive financial and operational data for review each year.
Earth Creations, of Bessemer, was one of three small businesses recognized by Green America in its People & Plant Awards. Earth Creations, with its sewing plant in Moulton, produces organic apparel for men, women and children.
The 2014 Honda Odyssey, assembled at the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC plant in Lincoln, has earned the top safety award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, becoming the first minivan to do so. The Odyssey, named a Top Safety Pick Plus, received a good rating in all five IIHS crash evaluations.
JM Family Enterprises Inc. has been ranked No. 21 on the InformationWeek 500 list of leading technology innovators in the U.S. for 2013. A diversified automotive company, JM Family has an operation in Mobile.
Lawson State Community College has been ranked fifth in the Best Community Colleges category of the 2013 Washington Monthly College Rankings. The list included about 700 institutions and Lawson State was the only community college in Alabama to rank in the top 50.
Corporate Counsels has ranked Maynard, Cooper & Gale PC in the top 10 percent of all law firms for securities litigation, according to BTI Litigation Outlook 2014.
Alabama A&M University has been named a Military Friendly School for 2014 by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Guide to Military Friendly Schools. AAMU placed among the top 15 percent of schools nationally, according to the survey that was certified by Ernst and Young.
Alabama Power and the Tennessee Valley Authority were among the Top Utilities in Economic Development, as selected by Site Selection magazine. There were 10 utilities recognized as "winners."
Baker Donelson was ranked in the top 10 of law firms that most often represent the nation's largest corporations, according to Corporate Counsel's annual survey of outside counsel to the Fortune 500 companies. In addition, the firm ranked ninth overall for a second consecutive year in Vault Inc.'s 2014 Best Law Firms for Diversity listing.
Brasfield & Gorrie was recognized by the National Association of Women in Construction for its safety program and record of workplace safety. It received the 2013 Safety Excellence Award from NAWIC. In addition, the Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors recognized Brandon Riddick-Seals, Brasfield's business development manager, for his support and advocacy in the development of minority businesses. The award was presented in October at the NAMC 2013 Hard Hat Awards Banquet.
Robins & Morton has been named one of the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in the U.S. by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption for a fourth consecutive year. Robins & Morton was rated No. 1 in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry and No. 20 overall.
RSQ, a division of Mobile’s Red Square Agency, recently won four silver awards in the website, marketing and social media categories of The W3 Awards, the annual award program of the International Academy of the Visual Arts.
Samford University, in Birmingham, ranked third in the U.S. News and World Report's annual Best Regional University-South Rankings for 2014. Spring Hill College, in Mobile, placed No. 16 and the University of Montevallo, in Montevallo placed No. 36. Troy University, in Troy, and the University of North Alabama, in Florence, were in a four-way tie with the University of North Carolina-Pembroke and the University of South Florida-St. Petersburg for No. 80 on the list. Auburn University-Montgomery was in a five-way tie with Albany State University, Union College, University of the Cumberlands and Virginia State University for No. 84 on the listing.
