With 28 million votes proclaiming it America’s Favorite Park, Pratt Park in Prattville won a $100,000 recreation grant from Coca-Cola that was presented in late September.
City officials plan to use the Coca-Cola grant plus $42,000 from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to build a splash pad at the park. The Coca-Cola funds will be used to build the facility and the state money to develop the pad from recycled tire beading.
Pratt Park includes a children’s playground, Olympic-size swimming pool, fishing pond also used for remote-controlled boating, and a sports stadium. It is the setting for Prattville Fourth of July activities, including a barbecue, fireworks and cardboard boat races.
Prattville’s park was one of 16,000 nominated in the contest and garnered votes through activities and social media.
