Huntsville Names New Economic QB

Michelle Jordan

Michelle Jordan

Michelle Jordan has been chosen as director of economic development and legislative affairs for the City of Huntsville. Jordan has been the city’s director of community development since 2009, coming to Huntsville after 10 years as director of planning and development in Decatur.

Mayor Tommy Battle said he was impressed by Jordan’s experience working with federal agencies, her knowledge of urban planning, code and ordinances and her work with business incubators. She also is experienced in grant management, environmental impact studies, real estate, negotiations and lobbying, he said.

“When you add it all up, Jordan’s background, her successful track record, and her keen intelligence made her the top choice for the job,” Battle said. “We have a billion dollar economic base in research and development, a AAA bond rating from Moody’s, and more than 4,000 direct government jobs moving to the area as of September. Jordan will help lead the city through that transition and beyond.”

With both undergraduate and master’s degrees from Alabama A & M University, Jordan began her career with the U.S. Forest Service.
