Qualitest to cut 300 jobs in Huntsville, Charlotte

An Endo Pharmaceuticals company will lay off hundreds of workers in Huntsville and Charlotte, N.C., as it works to restructure its business model. Qualitest, which joined Endo in 2010, will reduce its Huntsville workforce by more than 300 jobs as part of an "accelerated restructuring of its Generics product and R&D portfolio, as well as its manufacturing facility network." – AL.com

Montgomery mayor: Not so fast on speed cars

Last week, Governor Bentley signed a bill putting the brakes on Montgomery’s use of speed cameras come June 1st.  Mayor Todd Strange says, not so fast. He says the automated enforcement cameras aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. He says their use is protected under a section in the constitution that states legislators can’t enact a statute that would impair an existing contract. Strange says there are three years left on the contract with the automated photo ticket system. – AlabamaNewsNet

Thyssenkrupp lowers guidance despite quarterly bump

Thyssenkrupp AG on Tuesday lowered its guidance for the current fiscal year, citing the significant drop in global prices of materials such as steel in the first half, even as the German industrial conglomerate reported a 26% jump in net profit for the second quarter. – Wall Street Journal

BLG Academy has 33 graduates

Over the years, Cerit Bryant has noticed how common it is for high school students to have no practical experience for the real world after graduation. State grant to help create 35 jobs in Atmore

A $300,000 grant will help a company specializing in high technology machinery and fabrication build a manufacturing plant in Atmore. When in operation, the plant will provide 35 new jobs for the area. The Community Development Block Grant will assist Brown Precision Inc., a Huntsville-based company, to build a 60,000-square-foot building in the North Rivercane Industrial Park. – WEAR
