BP may have appeal option after all

A federal appeals court has opened the door for BP to appeal some claims related to a settlement reached after the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ordered a lower court judge to change a procedure that effectively blocked appeals. – AP/AL.com

Legislators near deadline to fix budget

Alabama's General Fund budget is scheduled to come up in a House committee Wednesday, but it will likely be shaped today as the House of Representatives decides which new taxes pass or fail. The budget, which pays for most non-education programs and services in the state, may not be finalized until the votes come in on a House GOP revenue package set for consideration by the chamber this afternoon, one legislator said Monday. – Montgomery Advertiser

Walter Energy faces debt repayment

Hoover-based Walter Energy Inc. faces one of the biggest challenges in company history, as the energy firm looks to meet a major debt payment by the end of the week. Gorilla posts protect Wright-designed house

Frank Lloyd Wright designed only a single home in Alabama.  It was one of his classic Usonian homes he was noted for, designed in 1939 for Stanley and Mildred Rosenbaum.  It is referred to as one of the "purest examples of Wright's unique style" but its low-hanging roof required protection from modern high-profile vehicles. – PR Newswire 

ServisFirst hires Tant for health care banking

The local arm of Alabama-based ServisFirst Bank has hired a veteran business banker and CapStar Bank veteran to help build its health care and commercial book of business. Clif Tant has joined ServisFirst as senior vice president of commercial and health care banking. He has more than 11 years of industry experience, most recently as a principal in CapStar's health care team, which was publicly launched in early 2013. – Nashville Post

Statewide drone use getting closer

The FAA announced last week that it's working to expand the use of commercial drones. That's a good thing for the state's unmanned aeiral system council, who's following their lead and working on policy and procedures for state operated drones. Daniels joins Iberia in Huntsville

A 17-year finance veteran has joined IBERIABANK's commercial team in Huntsville. Brian Daniels is IBERIABANK's new vice president and commercial relationship manager. Daniels, who has worked in both commercial banking and credit, was a commercial risk officer and asset manager with BB&T in its Acquired Asset Group. – AL.com

UAB Hospital wins new certification

UAB Hospital this week became the first hospital in the state to be certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The designation means that UAB Hospital is certified to treat complex strokes at any time of day due to staff, infrastructure, and equipment. – News release
