A month of achievements in Alabama business

Montgomery-based J.M. Wood Auction Company Inc. saw more than 4,000 bidders onsite and online for its 42nd annual spring auction of construction, truck and forestry equipment. Gross sales for the March event totaled more than $52 million — a record breaker for the company’s spring sale — and accounted for 3,600 lots being sold, including a fleet of 2011 year model Caterpillar machines from counties across the Southeast. 

Huntsville’s Foreign Language Services has been selected as one of 130 businesses for the third Cohort Class in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program. FLS founder Caroline Myers is one of 59 female business owners from 35 states who will participate as a scholar in the 12-week program. 

Regions Bank, for a second consecutive year, is ranked among the top 10 percent of companies in the 2015 Temkin Experience Ratings, compiled by customer experience research and consulting firm Temkin Group. In addition, Regions recently was presented 28 awards by Greenwich Associates for providing distinguished quality service to small business and middle market clients. 

Robins & Morton, of Birmingham, has won a 2014 National Excellence in Construction Pyramid award from the Associated Builders and Contractors for the CARBO Millen Line 1 Proppant Manufacturing facility project. Robins & Morton also earned ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process Platinum award for the same project, which has zero lost time incidents in 650,423
work hours.  

SEA Wire and Cable Inc. has received a 2014 Boeing Performance Excellence Award, which recognizes suppliers who have achieved superior performance for a 12-month period. SEA was recognized for its efforts from Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014. 

A team from the University of Alabama at Birmingham has taken second place in the CME Group’s Trading Challenge, an electronic investments trading competition in which student teams trade a variety of CME Group products in a simulated trading environment. The team competed against more than 500 teams from 226 universities. 

The University of Mobile has earned nine national awards, including Best of Show, in the 30th annual Educational Advertising Awards, sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report. UMobile was among 14 institutions recognized by the judges out of more than 1,000 participating colleges.
