Big Communications, of Birmingham, has promoted Onna Cunningham from business manager to director of business operations. 

Katie Owens, of Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood Inc., has recently passed her final Architect Registration Exam to become a licensed architect. Owens works out of the firm’s Birmingham office.

Mungo Homes, of South Carolina, has expanded into Huntsville and named Collins Pearson as division president. 

Anzalone Liszt Grove Research, of Montgomery, has hired Kevin Akins as its newest associate. Akins has spent the last six years with political polling firm Hamilton Campaigns.

Motion Industries, a distributor of industrial maintenance, repair and operation replacement parts, has promoted Richard Burmester to senior vice president and group executive for the Southwest sales group and Austin Amos to senior vice president and group executive of the Midwest sales group.

ACT welcomed seven new board members to its National Workforce Solutions Advisory Board. Among the seven was Alabamian Neal Wade, chairman of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama and executive director of Bay Economic Development Alliance.

Zeke Smith and Jerry Mays have been appointed to the newly created Alabama Workforce Council by Gov. Robert Bentley. Smith is Alabama Power Co. executive vice president of external affairs, and Mays is the immediate past mayor of  Phil Campbell, Ala.

William Seidler, a senior research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Research Institute, has been awarded the Peter Haas Award by the Hardened Electronics and Radiation Technology Conference, for his contributions to the nuclear survivability of military systems.

Auburn University President Jay Gogue has received the 2014 Glenn Howze Academic Freedom Award from the Auburn chapter of the American Association of University Professors. 

Education Corp. of America, of Birmingham, has named David Kahn senior vice president and chief human resources officer and Dawn Iwamoto chief academic officer and provost.

Don Hawkins, president of Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, has announced his resignation, effective Aug. 1. He has been with the college for 13 years.

Hayward Warren, of LBYD Inc., has been certified as a Licensed Professional Engineer by the state of Alabama.

Professional Service Industries Inc. has hired Richard Curtis as senior vice president responsible for the oversight of PSI's operations in Kennesaw, Ga. and Birmingham, Ala. 

PNC Financial Services Group Inc. has named Tank Tankersley, Charlene Reyes, Rena Davis, Heather Gilbert and Amelia Pope to its wealth management team in Mobile, serving the Gulf Coast market.

John Land, of The Porter Capital Group, has been promoted to chief operating officer for Porter Billing Services LLC in Birmingham.

Warren Averett Asset Management LLC has expanded into the Tampa, Fla. market, and named Lee Brill senior client consultant. Brill will lead the Tampa office. Warren Averett Asset Management has office locations in Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery, as well as its Florida offices in Pensacola and Tampa.

Philip Bentley Jr., a trustee of the board of Huntsville Hospital, has been named the Alabama Hospital Association 2014 Trustee of the Year.

EMC Hospice celebrated Professional Social Worker Month in March by honoring Lynn Wilkerson, who has been with EMC since its opening in 2005.

Maynard Cooper & Gale PC has added John Neiman as a shareholder. Neiman most recently served as the solicitor general of Alabama. In addition, the firm added Bryan Thames to its general corporate and mergers & acquisitions practices.

Amy Davis Adams

Amy Davis Adams, a partner at Balch and Bingham’s Birmingham office, has been elected a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Hazel Mansell Gore, a former practitioner and educator in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in early March. The hall is located on the campus of Judson College.

Ten board member at St. Vincent's Health System recently have achieved becoming certified hospital trustees. They are Robert Barnett Sr., Mary Elizabeth Cullen, James Davis, Kent Graeve, Willie Parker, Nena Sanders, Daniel Sansone, Zeke Smith, William Stancil Starnes and Joseph Welden Jr.  

The Women's Business Council of North Alabama has welcomed its new program director, Erin Bloxham Curtis. Curtis took over from interim COO Kathy McCool, who had coordinated efforts for the center for several months while a search was underway. 

Coldwell Banker Commercial Moore Company Realty has hired Sam Meadows as a sales representative. He will work out of the company’s Birmingham office. In addition, agent Gene Cody has been awarded the top agent in Alabama for 2013 and Wes Cline has been awarded the Bronze Circle of Distinction for 2013.

Cushman & Wakefield | EGS Commercial Real Estate Inc. has hired Brad Jones as a senior vice president and shareholder. He will be an active member of the EGS office leasing and brokerage team.

John Benner has been named director of development of Dominion Partners. Dominion currently owns and manages multi-family and Somerby senior living communities in Mobile and Birmingham, as well as in Georgia and South Carolina.
