Big Communications, of Birmingham, has promoted Onna Cunningham from business manager to director of business operations.
Katie Owens, of Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood Inc., has recently passed her final Architect Registration Exam to become a licensed architect. Owens works out of the firm’s Birmingham office.
Mungo Homes, of South Carolina, has expanded into Huntsville and named Collins Pearson as division president.
Anzalone Liszt Grove Research, of Montgomery, has hired Kevin Akins as its newest associate. Akins has spent the last six years with political polling firm Hamilton Campaigns.
Motion Industries, a distributor of industrial maintenance, repair and operation replacement parts, has promoted Richard Burmester to senior vice president and group executive for the Southwest sales group and Austin Amos to senior vice president and group executive of the Midwest sales group.
ACT welcomed seven new board members to its National Workforce Solutions Advisory Board. Among the seven was Alabamian Neal Wade, chairman of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama and executive director of Bay Economic Development Alliance.
Zeke Smith and Jerry Mays have been appointed to the newly created Alabama Workforce Council by Gov. Robert Bentley. Smith is Alabama Power Co. executive vice president of external affairs, and Mays is the immediate past mayor of Phil Campbell, Ala.
William Seidler, a senior research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Research Institute, has been awarded the Peter Haas Award by the Hardened Electronics and Radiation Technology Conference, for his contributions to the nuclear survivability of military systems.

Philip Bentley Jr., a trustee of the board of Huntsville Hospital, has been named the Alabama Hospital Association 2014 Trustee of the Year.

Hazel Mansell Gore, a former practitioner and educator in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in early March. The hall is located on the campus of Judson College.

The Women's Business Council of North Alabama has welcomed its new program director, Erin Bloxham Curtis. Curtis took over from interim COO Kathy McCool, who had coordinated efforts for the center for several months while a search was underway.
