Transforming Big Industry Incentives for Small Biz
New incentives allow Alabama Power Co. to give small and medium-sized businesses a break on their power bills.
The Alabama Public Service Commission, in April, approved incentives that allow Alabama Power Co. to give small and medium-sized businesses a break on their power bills. The new policies:
• Give a 15 percent discount for one year to small and medium-sized commercial customers that open a new account at an existing building or a space that has been unoccupied for at least six months.
• Extend access to a preferential small business rate for about 8,000 additional customers around the state.
• Give a two-year discount to business customers who qualify for the Alabama Department of Revenue’s Capital Investment Tax Credits.
Qualifying customers will receive a 10 percent discount in year one and a five percent discount in year two. To qualify, the customer must satisfy capital investment and job creation thresholds and add a minimum amount of new electric usage.
