Chickens euthanized in Alabama after bird flu outbreak

Aviagen, the world's leading poultry breeding company, has euthanized chickens at a farm in Alabama over concerns about bird flu, the company said on Tuesday, as likely cases of the disease emerged in a top chicken-producing state. Alabama officials said they suspected that poultry at three sites in the state were infected with the virus, about a week after some 90,500 chickens were culled over infections at two commercial operations across the border in Tennessee. – Reuters

Drummond sued over housing built atop former mines

A central Florida man is suing a mining company that he says built homes over former phosphate mines and didn't warn homeowners about health hazards. Alexander City settles lawsuit over improper jailings

A public interest law firm says it has settled a federal lawsuit over allegations that a central Alabama city operated what amounted to a debtor's prison. The Southern Poverty Law Center said Tuesday it had reached a preliminary agreement with the town of Alexander City. – AP/USNWR

Airline adds nonstop from Birmingham to Chicago

American Airlines will operate a non-stop flight from BHM to ORD. The non-stop service to Chicago O'Hare International Airport will start July 5. American is the second airline at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, the first being United Airlines. The service will fly twice daily with a two-class CRJ-700. – AL.com
