ULA wins two more space rocket contracts

United Launch Alliance landed two of four government contracts awarded for the development of new rocket engines that will phase out U.S. dependency on Russian-built engines for space flight. If successful, the new engine will help assure the future viability of ULA’s planned Vulcan rocket slated for a maiden flight in 2019. – Decatur Daily

Two retailers to exit struggling Huntsville retail strip

Two national clothing retailers are leaving the struggling South Huntsville Square shopping center, formerly known as Haysland Square. Goody's and Burkes Outlet will shut down this spring in an older section of the development on South Memorial Parkway. Both stores have closing signs out front encouraging shoppers to visit before it's too late. – AL.com

Birmingham students participating in Lego Fest

Three inspiring Birmingham children are preparing to compete in the 2016 First Lego League World Festival in St. Louis in April 2016. This global competition challenges 9- to 14-year-olds to think like engineers and scientists. The robotics competition began with 29,000 teams competing locally and then regionally, and now approximately 100 teams from 82 countries that will compete internationally. – PRNewsWire

Birmingham developer closes $15M deal

A Birmingham commercial real estate firm hopes to boost its Alabama presence with the acquisition of a five-property portfolio in the greater Huntsville area. Shannon Waltchack Principal Derek Waltchack said his company closed on a $15 million deal last week for five shopping centers spanning nearly 100,000 square feet in Athens and Hartselle. – AL.com
