A month of achievements in Alabama business

Brasfield & Gorrie has received a quarterly safety award from the Mobile District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its achievements on its NASA Test Stands construction project at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. The project consists of the construction of two large stands for testing the fuel tanks and other key hardware for NASA’s new Space Launch System. 

The Battle House Renaissance Hotel & Spa has once again made Travel + Leisure magazine’s Top 500 Hotels in the World listing for 2015. It was the only hotel from Alabama to be featured on this year’s list. 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Southern Co. have recognized the Five Star and Urban Waters Program for restoration of the following streams and watersheds in Alabama: Turkey Creek vermillion darter restoration and education in Pinson, the Persimmon Branch wetlands enhancement in Troy and the oyster restoration in Coastal Alabama in Mobile County. 

As of December, Guardian Credit Union has given its members more than $3 million in “cash back” bonuses over the past four years. In 2014, its cash back bonus amounted to $800,000 going to its 20,000 members. Guardian serves the area in and near Montgomery.

Four of the top five golf locations at Marriott and Renaissance hotels in North America are in Alabama. They are Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa, which took the top spot, followed by Auburn/Opelika Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at Grand National. Coming in fourth on the list was The Marriott in Prattville at Capitol Hill and finishing fifth was the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Point Clear. 

Stirling Properties, one of the largest real estate firms in the Gulf South, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. It has an office in Mobile. 

The Thompson Foundation, which was founded in 2004 and is funded through Thompson Engineering employees and company contributions, has reached the $500,000 milestone in giving. Since its inception, the foundation has made awards to more than 180 organizations.
