A month of achievements in Alabama business

Berkadia LLC was recently honored by CoStar Group Inc. as one of the top commercial real estate firms in Alabama, based on total sales transactions closed during 2014. In addition, principal David Oakley (middle) and senior vice presidents David Etchison (left) and Royce Emerson (right) were named among the Top CoStar Power Brokers in the market for achieving the highest transaction volumes in commercial property sales in 2014. 

The Home Builders Association of Alabama recently presented its Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards to the following companies, which were the winners in each category: WSC Distinctive Builders LLC for Best in Show, for Whole House Remodel Over $500,000, for Additions Under $100,000, and for Space Renovation; Chad Stearns Builder LLC for Whole House Remodel Under $250,000; Willow Homes for Whole House Remodel $250,000-$500,000; Counter Dimensions for Kitchen Remodel Under $40,000 and for Kitchen Remodel $40,000-$80,000; Lovette Construction for Kitchen Remodel Over $80,000 and Bath Remodel $20,000-$50,000; Slaton Custom Homes for Bath Remodel Under $20,000 and Bath Remodel Over $50,000; Precision Homecrafters LLC for Additions $100,000-$250,000, for Exterior Remodel, for Outdoor Living and for Residential Specialty Project; ELM Construction LLC for Basement Remodel; Taylor Burton Co. Inc. for Universal Design; Case Design Remodeling for Historic Preservation and H. B. Thompson Construction Services Inc. for Commercial Renovation. 

Associa McKay Management, of Birmingham, recently won the Small Branch of the Year award at Associa’s 2015 Leadership Summit. The award recognizes the firm’s achievements in 2014 for client growth, retention and profitability. 

AuburnBanks's parent company, Auburn National Bancorporation, was ranked 102nd nationally among publicly traded banks and thrifts with less than $2 billion in assets for 2014 in American Banker magazine's ranking.

For a second consecutive year, Baker Donelson has been named a Beacon of Justice Award winner by the National Legal Aid & Defender Association. The award recognizes law firms whose pro bono accomplishments have expanded opportunities for the underserved in areas such as education, health care, housing and legal services. 

Big Communications took top honors at the annual Public Relations Council of Alabama awards gala when its Alabama Gulf Seafood campaign won Best in Show. In addition, Big took five more awards for its work on the seafood campaign and one award for its regional promotion of New York Times Best Seller "The Storm and the Tide." 

BugMaster, with locations in Mobile and Daphne, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month. The company has 24 employees and continues to grow. 

Capstone Building Corp., in partnership with Pennrose Properties LLC, has received the Energy Star from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its multifamily development, The Jefferson, in Connecticut. 

EWTN Global Catholic Network, of Irondale, has won a Gabriel Award for Religious Television Station of the Year for a third consecutive year. The award recognizes the network’s programming and community service. 

Hartzell Engine Technologies LLC, of Montgomery, has received Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for its ASG series of alternators. The company supplies alternators for Cessna OEM production and PMA provides eligibility to replace older Ford units.

Hoar Construction has been presented the Pyramid awards from Associated Builders and Contractors for the firm’s work on the Abroms Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital and Clinic and M2 Apartments. 

The Central Gulf Industrial Alliance has endorsed the Iron Workers Local 798 in Mobile for its training center. 

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, has been awarded the agency's Small Business Administrator's Cup, which recognizes the NASA center that operates the best overall small business program. This is the fourth time Marshall has won the award in the award's seven-year history. 

Mobile Technical Institute Inc. has been named a Society for Human Resource Management Preferred Provider, which will allow MTI to award SHRM Professional Development Credits for its Success Seminar Series workshops. 

Samford University’s Brock School of Business has maintained its accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for its undergraduate, master of business administration and master of accountancy degree programs.

Boeing has honored 14 companies and one university in its 2014 Supplier of the Year awards including Science and Engineering Services LLC, of Huntsville, which received the Aerospace Support award. 

Trustmark Corp. has been presented the Innovation in Financial Education Award, presented by NASDAQ and EverFi. The award recognizes significant efforts to improve the financial capability of young Americans. 

The University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce's online Bachelor of Business program has been recognized by BestColleges.com as one of the top not-for-profit online programs in the country, coming in third in its 2015 Top 25 ranking of online degree programs. In addition, the college recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of its Executive MBA Program.
