The Partners for Environmental Progress recently presented its 2013 Stewardship Awards to G.A. West & Co., Hand Arendall LLC, Mobile Bay Transportation/Yellow Cab, Rain for Rent and Thompson Engineering. In addition, they presented the Community Partner Award to Dog River Clearwater Revival. For the ninth consecutive year, 3M, which has locations in Decatur and Guin, has won a Sustained Excellence Award for its energy conservation efforts from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is the first firm to win this many consecutive awards.

Alabama A&M University’s College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences’ rocket team topped NASA’s annual University Student Launch Initiative. A&M’s team competed against nearly 40 teams from across the country.
The Alabama chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects has named its 2012 Landscape Award winners. Receiving the Honor awards in the Analysis and Planning Categories were Ross Bridge - Holcombe Norton Partners, and Red Rock Ridge and Valley Trail Systems – Goodwyn Mills Cawood. In the General Design Category, Merit awards were presented to: KPS Group Inc. for the Auburn Campus Green and Avondale Park; Holcombe Norton Partners for Auburn Ped Ways; Johnson & Co. for Elizabeth Naro Saia Garden; Hillworks for Transformation Garden; Greenview Studios for the Massey Residence and Golightly Landscape Architecture for a Private Residence in Mountain Brook. The Research Merit Award went to Hillworks for Phenology. In the Student Awards category, the Honor Award and the Merit Award went to Auburn University for its work at Peacock Place in Montgomery and Parkerson Mill Creek.
Auburn University and the University of Alabama have been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction, a recognition of the leading colleges and universities for their dedication to civic engagement, service learning and volunteering.

Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon Inc., an employee-owned professional services firm, ranked no. 163 among the nation's top engineering companies on Engineering News-Record's annual list of Top 500 Design Firms. It was a 17-point increase from the company's previous ranking in 2012.

Oakstone Publishing, a Birmingham-based provider of multimedia educational programs for healthcare professionals, has been named a multiple winner in the Calendar Marketing Association's 2013 National and World Calendar Awards competition. Oakstone took the gold in the planner/pocket calendar's "most informative" category and the bronze award in the wall calendar's "most informative" category.
Southern States Bank, headquartered in Anniston, ranked no. 72 in SNL's Top 100 Community Banks 2012 with assets under $500 million. Southern States Bank was the only community bank in Alabama in the top 100 in this category.

Transportation South Inc., Alabama’s largest school bus provider, has just delivered its 10,000 bus since the company’s formation 25 years ago. The bus was delivered to the Jefferson County Board of Education in May.
Victory Solutions Inc., of Huntsville, recently was recognized by Boeing Co. as one of Boeing's Suppliers of the Year. Victory won Boeing's award for Diversity. Victory is a woman-owned, service-disabled veteran owned company founded in 2006. It provides technology development and support to government organizations and commercial customers.
White-Spunner Construction Inc., of Mobile, recently received its 9th Construction Safety and Excellence Award from the Associated General Contractors of America. The award recognizes companies with safe work hours in 2012 and safety statistical data from the participants' OSHA 300A Summary.
WVTM in Birmingham, owned by Media General Inc., took home the Overall Excellence Award for Region 9 from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
