Canary steps down from BCA, takes position at U.S. Chamber

Business Council of Alabama President Billy Canary stepped down Friday in the wake a wave of a number of high-profile departures from the organization. Canary announced his retirement from the BCA and has accepted a position as senior fellow at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has led the group, long a major player in state politics, for the last 15 years. – AP

Esquire weighs in on state’s ‘spectacular’ corruption trial

In Alabama we find a pretty spectacular political corruption trial unfolding. Three men are charged with allegedly bribing a former state representative named Oliver Robinson, who already has admitted to taking the bribe and copped a plea deal. Two of the men, Joel Gilbert and Steve McKinney, are lawyers. The third defendant is David Roberson, the vice president of the Drummond Company. – Esquire

High Point Climbing breaks ground Tuesday in Huntsville

Chattanooga-based High Point Climbing and Fitness will break ground on its 25,000-square-foot climbing gym at MidCity Huntsville Tuesday, near TopGolf. KBR wins $133M contract for Patriot Missile work

KBR Inc. announced today that its global government services business, KBRwyle, has been awarded a $133 million task order by the U.S. Army's Lower Tier Project Office to provide technical and engineering services to the Patriot missile system. This work will be primarily performed in Huntsville. The task order award period is five years with a six-month extension option. – Markets Insider

Culver’s restaurant coming to Foley in November

Culver’s franchisee Curtis Herbig recently closed on the acquisition of a 1-acre parcel of land located at 3201 South McKenzie Street in Foley for construction of the first Culver’s restaurant in south Alabama. Work on the site has commenced, and the projected opening date is anticipated for early November of 2018. Stirling Properties worked with Culver’s to secure the property. – News release

The University of Alabama and Coca-Cola Bottling Company United have signed a multi-year contract making the Birmingham-based company the exclusive beverage provider for vending and pouring rights on campus. – Markets Insider

Mercedes records its best half-year mark ever for sales

Mercedes-Benz can look back on its strongest-selling quarter in the companies’ history. From April to June 2018, 594,528 customers received new Mercedes-Benz cars. The automaker sold more vehicles than ever before in a half-year; since the beginning of the year, 1,188,832 cars with the three-pointed star were delivered to customers all over the world. Unit sales were thus 3.9 percent higher than in the previous highest first half-year in 2017. – Wheels24
