Health system, physicians group settle

Mobile-based Infirmary Health System Inc. and Diagnostic Physicians Group P.C. have reached a $24.5 million settlement of a whistleblower lawsuit, in which they were charged with violating the False Claims Act by paying or receiving kickbacks for Medicare claims, the Department of Justice said Monday. – Business Insurance

Southern Company announces dividend

The Southern Company announced a quarterly dividend Monday. Stockholders of record on Monday, August 4 will be paid a dividend of 0.525 per share on Saturday, September 6. This represents a $2.10 annualized dividend and a dividend yield of 4.68%. – InterCooler

ServisFirst has good 2nd quarter

ServisFirst Bancshares Inc. reported net income of $11.6 million and net income available to common stockholders of $11.5 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, compared to net income of $9.7 million and net income available to common stockholders of $9.6 million for the same quarter in 2013. – Insurance News

Six Flags stock runs off track

Only 8.2 million people went to one of Six Flags' 18 parks in April, May or June. That was an 8 percent drop from the prior year. The company blamed the shrinking crowds on "lingering effects of the long, harsh winter" that extended school calendars and shortened many spring breaks. Two propane companies settle with state

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange announced Friday a $500,000 settlement with two propane providers that allegedly violated the Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Thompson Gas-Smokies LLC and Suburban Gas Propane Partners LLC provide propane to customers throughout Alabama and share a regional headquarters in Columbiana. – Legal Newsline

RealtyBid names new president

RealtyBid International recently named former Operations Manager Jenny Atchley as its company president. Atchley has been with RealtyBid since its founding more than 15 years ago. Through the first half of 2014 RealtyBid’s auction property inventory increased by 49% over the first half of 2013 and property sales grew by 93% over the first half of 2013. – News release

Drummond denies working with militants

The Center for Public Integrity recently made attempts to reach Drummond Company for comment on the latest round of allegations that the company is using paramilitary groups as enforcers at its Colombian mining operations. “Drummond has never paid or otherwise assisted any illegal group in Colombia, whether paramilitary or guerilla [sic],” its lawyers responded. – PublicIntegrity.org
