Stone Martin Builders, of Opelika, has been recognized by Builder Magazine as the 122nd largest builder in the United States. Stone Martin closed 196 homes in 2011. The company is a RESNET Energy Smart builder. “Our company’s dedication to energy efficiency that results in an energy cost savings of up to 40 percent is a major contributor to our success,” says COO Mitchell Martin.
The sixth annual Alabama Governments Awards were recently presented by Auburn University at Montgomery’s Center for Government and Public Affairs and the Center for Advanced Technologies. The winners for 2012 were: Alabama Writer’s Forum, Alabama Department of Youth Services and the Alabama Medicaid Agency; the District Attorney’s Office of Montgomery County; the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services; and the Calhoun County Commission, Revenue Commissioner and GIS Department.
The Alabama Legislature recently passed a resolution commending Auburn University for its innovation in cyber security technology, research and education. Auburn has cyber projects that are both classified and unclassified.
Brasfield & Gorrie LLC, one of Alabama’s and the nation’s largest construction firms, was recently part of the project team for the Perkins+Will Atlanta office building renovation (pictured right), which has earned the highest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design score in the Northern Hemisphere to date under the 2009 version of the LEED for New Construction rating system. The building scored 95 points and earned LEED Platinum certification.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville again has been designated as a national center of information systems security education, recognizing the university’s programs to reduce cyber security risks. UAHuntsville was first named a national center in 2007, and this will extend the university’s designation by five years to 2017, according to the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
