Birmingham considers $2M in HealthSouth incentives

Birmingham is considering giving nearly $2 million in incentives for the building that will house HealthSouth's new headquarters in Liberty Park, according to an agenda from Birmingham's Economic Development, Budget & Finance Committee. Birmingham is considering providing $1.96 million in incentives toward the project to CRHQ, which owns the property. – AL.com

McCain blasts dependence on Russian rockets

Senator John McCain aimed outrage Wednesday at Senate colleagues for overturning his efforts to ban the purchase of Russian-made engines for U.S. space launches. “The Defense Department has actively sought to undermine” efforts to end dependence on Russian RD-180 engines, and it’s been helped by “the parochial motivations of Senator Shelby and Senator Durbin,” McCain said. – Bloomberg

Remington exceeds incentive hiring requirements

Remington Outdoor has exceeded its hiring and wage milestones at its new advanced manufacturing and research and development center in Huntsville. A report from the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County shows the firearm maker had 324 employees as of Aug. 31 with an average hourly wage nearly $10 higher than stated in its agreement with government entities. – AL.com

Polaris cuts 100 jobs outside Alabama

Polaris Industries Inc. laid off about 100 workers, half at operations in the Twin Cities, executives said Tuesday as the company announced a drop in fourth-quarter profits and warned of a steeper dip in the first quarter of this year. The Minnesota-based manufacturer of off-road vehicles and motorcycles informed workers of the cuts on Monday. No cuts in Alabama were announced. – Star Tribune

Wendy’s investigating potential data breach

Wendy's says it is investigating reports of "unusual activity" on payment cards used at some of its restaurants. The company says it learned from payment industry contacts this month of reports indicating fraudulent charges may have occurred on cards that had been used legitimately at some of its locations. – WSFA
