PrintTwinkies-maker Hostess filing for bankruptcy protection
Hostess Brands Inc., the maker of popular snack foods such as Ding Dongs, Twinkies, Ho Hos and Wonder Bread, is filing for bankruptcy protection, blaming it economic struggles on a number of factors including increased competition and medical benefits obligations.
The 87-year-old company also faces challenges from an American population that tends toward energy bars and diet snacks rather than the classic sugary snack cake.
Hostess Brands did not release any information regarding layoffs, but a spokesperson for the company said that any future decisions regarding employment would be made according to the best interest of the company.
