Airbus May Add Assembly Line in U.S.

Airbus SAS may add a final assembly line in the U.S. to buoy sales in the world's No. 1 market for single-aisle planes, according to an executive.

With assembly lines already established in France, Germany and China, Hans Peter Ring, CFO of Airbus parent European Aeronautic, Defense & Space Co., believes adding a local operation would increase visibility with potential clients.

With North American carriers' need to replace thousands of aircrafts within the next few years, Airbus would have the advantage of promothing their local manufacturing. 

Airbus had hoped to use the sale of refueling tankers as a starting point to build a commercial aircraft assembly line in Mobile, Ala., but it lost the tanker contract to Boeing last year.
