A month of achievements in Alabama business

bDot Architecture, a multidisciplinary design studio in Birmingham, took home the Best of Year in the Budget category for The Clubhouse at the ninth annual Interior Design Best of Year Awards ceremony. More than 2,000 submissions from around the globe were considered in multiple categories for this year’s awards.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges reaffirmed the accreditation of Alabama A&M University in early December 2014. Reaffirmation confirms that the university complies with more than 90 core requirements.

For a seventh consecutive year, Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith has been named one of the Best Accounting Firms to Work For in the U.S. by Accounting Today magazine. Barfield Murphy was the only Alabama-based firm to make the national list. 

The Boeing-led industry team and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency recently marked its 10th year of uninterrupted protection and deterrence provided by the Ground-based Midcourse Defense System, the nation’s only defense against long-range ballistic missile threats. 

Military Advanced Education has awarded Calhoun Community College the designation of a Top School in its 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education. 

The Alabama Farmers Federation has recognized The Choctaw Sun-Advocate, a community newspaper in Choctaw County, for excellence in reporting agriculture stories. 

Commercial Floor Care LLC, of Birmingham, has been certified as a minority owned business by the state of Alabama. The designation will provide an avenue for the company to gain new business from corporations, the federal government, state agencies and others who seek to do business with minority-owned companies. 

Mowery Consulting Group, of Montgomery, has been named a finalist for the Reed Award for Excellence in Campaign Consulting. The firm was nominated for 10 Reed Awards this year, including making it into the final three in the Best Web Video for a State Legislative Candidate category.  

White-Spunner Construction, of Mobile, was awarded the General Contractor of the Year Award from Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama

Brasfield & Gorrie was honored by the Associated Builders and Contractors of North Alabama with an excellence award for its work on the Alabama Media Group office in Huntsville. In addition, the company received three excellence awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors – Carolinas chapter.
