Adtran Inc., of Huntsville, has received two industry awards for its networking solutions. It was named one of CRN’s annual Top 25 Channel Sales Leaders and was named one of the Best Channel Vendors by Business Solutions magazine.
Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith was named the 2012 Best Accounting Firms to Work For in the U.S. by Accounting Today magazine. The firm ranked #6 in the medium-size firm category and was the only Alabama firm to make the list.
The Birmingham City Group of the Legal Marketing Association Southeast Chapter has been named the 2012 City Group of the Year. The award recognizes creativity, execution, achievement and excellence in legal marketing.
Calhoun Community College was selected as a finalist for the Community College Futures Assembly’s 2013 Bellwether Award for its dual enrollment program, A Solution to the Healthcare Needs of the Graying American Population, in the workforce development category. Calhoun is the only Alabama college selected as a finalist.

Fite Building Co. recently was awarded three Excellence in Construction awards from the Alabama chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors. Fite’s entry for Independence Tube Phoenix rebuilding project also has qualified for ABC’s national competition. The company also received recognition for the renovation of the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur and the team’s work on the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial.
The Grand Hotel Marriott Resort Golf Club & Spa, in Point Clear, made Travel + Leisure Magazine’s Top 500 Hotels in the World for 2013. It is the only hotel in Alabama to make the list, and it is the second time the hotel has appeared on the listing. The hotel also is celebrating its 166th year in operation.
Hargrove Engineers + Constructors, of Mobile, has been awarded the Hire Power Award from Inc. Magazine, recognizing the company as the no. 1 company in Alabama and America for creating engineering jobs. In addition, the firm has been named to ZweigWhite’s 2012 Best Firms to Work For among multi-discipline firms. The firm was recognized as one of the fastest growing architecture, engineering and environmental consulting firms based on percentage and dollar growth.
Infinity Auto Insurance, of Birmingham, was named one of the 2012 Communitas Award recipients in the category of Making a Difference. The firm was presented the award for its Read Conmigo bilingual child literacy program.
Maynard, Cooper & Gale, of Birmingham, has been included once again as a member of The BTI Client Service A-Team 2013, a recognition from The BTI Consulting Group Inc., which conducts a survey to rank law firms based on unbiased feedback from clients.
Merchant Capital LLC, of Montgomery, has been ranked no. 1 among the state’s banking institutions for municipal bond financing by Thomson Reuters for the 19th consecutive year. According to the ranking, Merchant Capital served as senior-manager for 115 bonds totaling $1.577.6 billion. In addition, Merchant Capital marked its 25th anniversary on New Year’s Eve 2012.
Southeast Alabama Medical Center is one of 20 organizations nationwide to receive the 2012 Excellence in Engagement Award from The Advisory Board Co.’s Employee Engagement Initiative. The initiative honors hospitals and health systems that have exhibited extraordinary levels of workforce engagement.
