A month of achievements in Alabama business
Hoar Construction, of Birmingham, has received seven Excellence in Construction awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors Alabama Chapter. Two of the seven projects, both of which were in Alabama, took the first-place Obelisk Awards: The Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (pictured above) and Children’s of Alabama Adaptive Reuse renovations.
Standard & Poor’s has affirmed its A-rating for Alabama State Port Authority’s outstanding dock facilities revenue bonds. The agency’s endorsement recognized the authority’s diversification of revenue sources in recent years, increasing cargo trends and strong financial margins.
Alabama’s Certified Public Manager program, administered by Auburn University at Montgomery’s Outreach, was approved for continued accreditation by the National Certified Public Manager Consortium.
Auburn University’s School of Industrial and Graphic Design honored Big Communications with the Outstanding Service Award for the firm’s achievements in its field and the number of Auburn graphic design alumni who contribute to the firm’s work.
BL Harbert International received five Excellence in Construction awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama.
Brasfield & Gorrie has been named General Contractor of the Year by the Subcontractors Association of Alabama. The association also honored Brasfield Senior Superintendent Larry Helms as Superintendent of the Year.
The Crawford Skinner Agency, of Springville, has been chosen by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America to participate in its Best Practices Study Group for 2014. Of the 1,100 agencies nominated, only 216 qualified for the honor.
DMS Moving Systems, with a location in Birmingham, has been honored for its performance by Cartus Corp. with the Cartus Masters Cup Award for move-related services.
Hartmann, Blackmon & Kilgore PC, of Fairhope, has been named the recipient of the second annual Bridging the Gap in IT/Firm Management award by Boomer Consulting Inc. This award recognizes efforts to align the accounting firm’s vision with technology.
Liberty Park, in Vestavia Hills, has been recognized by the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders as one of the area’s finest new home communities. The developer of Liberty Park, Liberty Park Joint Venture LLP, accepted the award — taking top honors in the five categories of best community in Vestavia Hills, best use of eco-friendly materials, best senior-living options, best move-up options and best recreational and leisure activities.
PPG Industries has received Platinum Source Preferred supplier awards from Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Aerospace Systems sector. PPG received the award for three of its facilities, including one in Huntsville.
Alabama's official state website, alabama.gov, won the silver award from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts in the government website category.
The Mobile Dupont plant recently achieved a safety milestone of 500 days without a recordable injury.
