The 19-acre Railroad Park, in Birmingham, has received the 2012 Urban Land Institute’s Urban Open Space Award. The award, which comes with a $10,000 cash prize, recognizes public open spaces that have spurred regeneration and the transformation of the surrounding community. The Tom Leader Studio-designed park is owned by the City of Birmingham and managed by the non-profit Railroad Park Foundation. Others involved in the design were Macknally Land Design, KVA, GA Architecture, HKW Associates, Khafra and Walter Schoel Engineering.
The Web Marketing Association has named Alabama’s official state website, alabama.gov, the Best Government Website for 2012. There were more than 2,000 entries from 42 countries that were judged in 96 industry categories. The website, redesigned by Alabama Interactive, also received first place in the Center for Digital Government’s Best of the Web competition earlier this year.
Auburn University ranked 37th among public universities for its undergraduate programs in an annual survey released by U.S. News & World Report. This marks the 20th consecutive year U.S. News has ranked Auburn among the nation’s top 50 public universities. Auburn has also been named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s list of Military Friendly Schools for 2013, one of the 1,700 U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools cited by the publication.
Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC has won a 2012 Distinguished Peer Award in the category of Project of the Year from the International Legal Technology Association. The award recognized Baker Donelson’s development of a patent pending legal project management system, BakerManage, and for being one of the first firms in the U.S. to create and implement a legal project management office.
The National Council on Marketing and Public Relations has awarded two gold awards, a silver award and a bronze award to Calhoun Community College’s Department of Public Affairs, Community Relations and Special Events. The gold awards were for the summer/fall 2011 schedule and the community education fall class schedule. The silver was for the adult education TV spot and the bronze was for the Calhoun careers TV spot.
Cellular Sales of Alabama, an agent retailer, was named Agent of the Year for Verizon Wireless’ Georgia and Alabama region. It was the second consecutive award for Cellular Sales.
Intergraph Corp.’s computer-aided dispatch software has received the 2012 Hot Products Award from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International. The award recognizes innovative technologies that improve the quality and timeliness of public safety communications.
The Modern Brand Co., an advertising and marketing company started by Michael Bell and Bradford Kachelhofer, is celebrating its fifth anniversary. The Birmingham-based consultancy provides services for small businesses, non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs.
The River Region Ethics in Business and Public Service awards were presented to four companies and one individual in mid-October. The awards presented and recipients were: Small Business – Seay, Seay, and Litchfield Architects; Medium Business – Up and Running Inc.; Large Business – GKN Aerospace; Non-Profit – Family Sunshine Center; and the Maury D. Smith Award for Excellence in Professional Ethics – Sieu Tang Wood, owner of Tang’s.
ServisFirst Bank’s Correspondent Division has been recognized by American Banker for its continued expansion of personnel and services. The division, which was founded in 2011, has more than 90 correspondent banking relationships throughout the Southeast.
Wallace State Community College in Hanceville has been recognized by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations with Medallion awards for its website, viewbook, electronic newsletter, catalog and performing arts brochure, as well as its “A Wallace State of Mind” radio announcement. In addition, Kristen Holmes, director of communications and marketing, was named the 2012 District 2 Communicator of the Year. This is Holmes’ second COTY award.
The Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence has named Wells Fargo Employer of the Year for the way it supports team members who are hurt by domestic abuse. Wells Fargo provides free confidential counseling, time off for court hearings and lawyer meetings, help with finding affordable legal services and childcare, as well as relocation services if necessary for those team members who are victims of abuse. Wells Fargo is the first bank to receive the award.
