Jackson Thornton has announced several promotions. Daniel Thompson has been named a principal in the firm; James Marshall III has been promoted to senior manager; Allison Guice has been promoted to manager of the business valuation and litigation consulting group; Keina Houser has been promoted to manager of the small business group; Robert Lang has been promoted to manager of the utilities group and Christy Weakley has been promoted to manager of the healthcare group.
Big Communications has promoted Lindsey Boan to media director. She will oversee the development and implementation of strategic media plans for clients. She joined the firm in 2010.
Transportation South Inc., a new and used bus supplier in Pelham, has added Scott Gassner to its commercial bus sales division. Gassner has more than 20 years of sales, marketing and management experience.
ServisFirst Bank has hired Tony Graydon as senior vice president, commercial banking. Graydon has more than 19 years’ experience, most recently serving at vice president of commercial banking at Whitney National Bank.
First National Bank of Central Alabama has appointed Erin Cannon as director of marketing and business development and Lynn Moss as senior accounting specialist. First National has five locations in Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties.
M&D Mechanical Contractors Inc.’s safety officer Eddie Evans has completed the requirements to become a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Evans already is a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM).
Vulcan Materials Co., of Birmingham, has appointed Danny Shepherd to executive vice president and chief operating officer; Michael Mills to senior vice president, general counsel and as the company’s corporate compliance officer, and John McPherson to senior vice president-east region. In addition, the company announced that Robert Wason IV retired at the end of October from his position as senior vice president, general counsel, but will assume the role of senior advisor to the executive management team.
American Pipe & Supply, of Birmingham, has hired John Howe as chief executive officer. Howe has over 20 years of management experience. American Pipe & Supply is a wholesale distributor of pipe, valves and fittings, plumbing fixtures and fire sprinkler materials.
Judy Bonner was named president of the University of Alabama, just days after Guy Bailey announced in late October that he was stepping down from the post due to concerns involving the health of his wife. Bailey had served as president since July. Bonner was interim president before Bailey’s selection and has been provost of the university. She is the first woman to lead the institution in its history.
Kelley & Mullis Wealth Management Managing Partner Michael Mullis was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal for his business approach. The firm provides middle class clients the same level of service high-net-worth individuals receive without having to compete for the same $1 million accounts.
Warren Averett Benefit Consultants LLC, the retirement plan services division of Warren Averett LLC, has hired Michael Palmer as director of operations and promoted William Presson to vice president of the division. Palmer has 14 years of experience and Presson has led operations for Warren Averett Benefit Consultants since 2003.
Joshua Reidinger has been appointed president of Warren Averett Asset Management LLC, a wealth and asset management firm. Reidinger has been with Warren Averett since 1996.
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP has hired economic development attorney Alex Leath as a partner in the Birmingham office. Leath and three associates, David Cooper Jr., Charles “Trey” Hill III and Matthew Hinshaw, will serve as members of the firm’s economic development and incentives group and state and local tax practice group.
Starnes Davis Florie has hired Weathers Bolt as an associate in the firm’s Mobile office. Bolt’s practice is in general civil litigation with a focus in complex insurance litigation.
The Alabama State Port Authority has named H.S. “Smitty” Thorne as deputy director and chief operating officer. Thorne has over 40 years of maritime industry experience.
Rear Admiral USN Retired John “Dugan” Shipway has been elected to chair the board of Austal USA, in Mobile. Shipway’s experience, which includes 35 years in the U.S. Navy and senior management roles in naval shipbuilding and support, is expected to help Austal deliver its Navy contracts efficiently and effectively.
iTalkSEC radio, a live radio and internet production based in Birmingham, has added Doug Bell and Doug Segrest as hosts. Bell has more than 25 years in national and international broadcasting. Segrest is a veteran sports writer.
Kyle Buchanan, MHSA, MBA has been hired as chief executive officer of Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton, a 98-bed facility in the Huntsville Hospital Health System. Buchanan previously served as vice president of operations at Helen Keller Hospital. Buchanan replaced current interim CEO Bill Anderson.
Donnie Calhoun has been elected to serve as president of the National Community Pharmacists Association. Calhoun owns Golden Springs Pharmacy, in Anniston, and currently serves as president of the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy. In addition, Lea Wolsoncroft was named the fifth vice president of the national association. Wolsoncroft operates Kids Meds Pharmacy, which specializes in prescription drugs for children in Birmingham.
Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation, in Daphne, has added Allison Garstecki as its new physician assistant. Garstecki earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and her master’s from the University of South Alabama.
Drummond Ltd. announced the resignation of Augusto Jimenez, president of Drummond Ltd. Colombia, effective December 31. Jose Miguel Linares, vice president-legal of Drummond Ltd. will assume the duties of interim president, while a search is underway. Jimenez has served as president since 1990.
Jamie Sims, a travel consultant for Springdale Travel in Mobile, has been chosen by Travel Impressions and Palace Resorts as one of its Travel Impressions Ambassadors. She was chosen based on her booking history, personal experience, enthusiasm and communication skills. She will serve as an ambassador for a year.
Jimmy Pursell and Chris Pursell, owners of Pursell Farms in Sylacauga, have been honored by Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences with its 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award. The Pursells are being honored for being entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
