Regions exec says you have to trim the right branches

Regions Financial Corp is in the middle of cutting 150 branches from its 15-state footprint. So why is the bank adding 17 new branches within a year? It's pretty simple, according to Shawn Bradley, Regions' Executive Vice President of Consumer Insights and Reporting. People are using bank branches less often, but Bradley says they remain an essential part of banking services and will continue to be. – AL.com

Caddell wins $38M freshman dorm project at UA

Caddell Construction Co. has been selected as the general contractor for the University of Alabama’s newest freshman residence hall. The new four-story, $38 million dormitory will feature 496 beds and each room will accommodate 2 students with its own bathroom and kitchenette. Project completion has been set for late 2018. – News release

Torch wins $10M order from Future Warfare Center

Torch Technologies in Huntsville has announced the award of a $10 million D3I Domain 2 - Wargames, Simulation & Scenario Development Task Order. Torch’s award provides study, war game, experimentation, and analysis support to the Space and Missile Defense Command’s Future Warfare Center over the next two-and-a-half years. – News release

Byars|Wright acquires Junkins Yarbrough Corp.

Byars|Wright, an independent insurance agency with offices in the greater Birmingham area, recently acquired Junkins Yarbrough Corp. The JYC acquisition will be its largest acquisition to date, adding 20 percent growth in revenue to the Byars|Wright portfolio and more than 1,000 new customers. Byars|Wright adds five seasoned professionals from the well-established insurance agency. – News release

Cantwell Family Psychiatry opens in Fairhope

Cantwell Family Psychiatry opened this week in Fairhope. The new office will accept such insurance policies as Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, United Healthcare, United Behavioral Health/OPTUM, as well as self-pay patients. Dr. John Cantwell has over 30 years of experience, the last nine of which have been on the Eastern Shore of Alabama. – News release
