Alabama shoppers to start paying tax on Amazon purchases

Beginning on Nov. 1, all Amazon online purchases made by shoppers who live in Alabama will have an additional eight percent sellers use tax. Amazon will collect the tax and pay to the state on the 20th of each month with the standard two percent discount taxpayers receive for paying on-time. – WSFA

VA announces new clinic to be built in Mobile

After years of paralyzing bureaucracy inside the department of Veterans Affairs, it was announced Wednesday that a new VA clinic will be built in Mobile, helping to serve Southwest Alabama's more than 50,000 veterans. The announcement ends years of speculation surrounding the region's VA clinic, although questions remain on when the new clinic will be delivered and at what cost.  – AL.com

Three community colleges to merge in south Alabama

The board of trustees for the Alabama Community College System has approved the consolidation of three colleges during a board meeting Wednesday. The board voted to consolidate Faulkner State in Bay Minette, Jefferson Davis in Brewton and Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville. The consolidated school will be known as Coastal Alabama Community College. – AL.com

Presidential election makes for brisk gun sales

As gun sales remain on a steady rise across the country, we checked to see how local gun sales are doing. At Tri-County Pawn Shop in Prattville, they say business is booming. UAB Health System outsources to Navigant Cymetrix

University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System has outsourced revenue cycle functions to Navigant Cymetrix under a seven-year contract, which covers more than 1,000 physicians as well as hospital revenue cycle operations. Administrative and business office functions to be managed include the processing and payment of claims along with accounts receivable management, payer account follow-up and self-pay account resolution. – Health Data Management

Army’s energy-saving projects now top $1B

In less than five years, the Army has engaged in 127 energy-saving projects with the private sector that now exceed $1 billion in investments, announced Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning. The $1 billion milestone was surpassed with a contract signed, Aug. 11, by Anniston Army Depot and its utility company. – Army News Service

Nine Dunkin’ Donuts stores to open in state

Dunkin' Donuts announced today the signing of a multi-unit store development agreement with two existing franchise groups to develop nine Dunkin' Donuts restaurants and one multi-brand unit with Baskin-Robbins, the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, in Alabama over the next several years. – News release
