A month of achievements in Alabama business

Commercial Metals Co., of Greenville, S.C., has been recognized with the 2014 NuHeights Design Award hosted by Vulcraft/Verco Group for its work on the new Birmingham Barons Ballpark, Regions Field, in Birmingham. 

Alabama Attorney General’s office has been honored with the National Association of Attorney General’s Best Brief Award. The brief was submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Lane v. Franks and was written by Solicitor General Andrew L. Brasher, along with Assistant Solicitor General Megan A. Kirkpatrick. The brief argued for the First Amendment protection of public employees who act as whistleblowers and testify to expose public corruption.

Applied OLAP Inc., of Huntsville, has recognized Iconomics Inc. as the Dodeca Solutions Specialist Partner of the Year. The award recognizes the value Iconomics has delivered to its mutual customers with Applied OLAP. Applied OLAP is a provider of spreadsheet management specialists.

Barganier Davis Sims Architects Associated, of Montgomery, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The firm, which grew out of the home of founder Jim Barganier, has won 33 state, regional and national awards for its work since its inception in 1974.

The Center for Public Television and Radio, housed at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, has won two Southeast Regional Emmy Awards from the National Academy for Television Arts and Sciences. The center won for Best Historical Documentary for “Mama Called” and for Best Promotional Campaign for “Alabama Detours.”

Several law firms with offices in Alabama were ranked in the 2014 Diversity Scorecard, an annual ranking by the Minority Law Journal and American Lawyer Magazine. Among the Alabama firms were Jackson Lewis at 47, Ogletree Deakins at 53, Phelps Dunbar at 152, Baker Donelson at 157, Burr & Forman at 166, Adams and Reese at 184, Bradley Arant at 213 and Balch & Bingham at 218.

Judson College's religious studies program has been ranked as seventh most affordable online degree program in the United States by OnlineU website. 

Meador Warehousing & Distribution Inc., of Mobile, has won an Environmental Stewardship Award by Cam-Air LLC & Orion Energy Systems in recognition of its efforts to reduce its climate change impact within its local community. Meador recently conducted an energy efficient lighting retrofit.

Palomar Insurance Corp., with corporate headquarters in Montgomery, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Founded in 1954, Palomar employs more than 85 professionals and is one of the largest independent insurance agencies
in the region.

Reinhardt Motors, of Montgomery, has earned its second Environmental Stewardship Award from Orion Energy Systems. Reinhardt recently upgraded its interior and exterior lighting in its Toyota dealership, which should reduce its lighting energy consumption by more than 65 percent.

Southern Nuclear, of Birmingham and a subsidiary of Southern Co., has been honored by the Navy Reserve for its support of citizen sailors. Southern Nuclear was one of 39 companies across the nation to receive the recognition. Currently 10 percent of the Southern Co. system’s 26,000 employees are veterans or serve in the National Guard or Reserve.

Wallace State Community College’s Dental Hygiene program received a perfect 100 percent pass rate for students taking the National Board exam for 2014. 

Wilkins Miller Hieronymus LLC marked its fifth anniversary in July. WMH is an accounting and advisory firm with more than 80 employees.
