Kimberly-Clark plans $100M capacity expansion for Mobile plant

Kimberly-Clark Corp. will invest more than $100 million in an expansion of its Mobile paper mill, following a $75 million efficiency upgrade announced last year. The program involves state and local tax abatements that could add up to more than $7 million. – AL.com

Regions Bank expands partnership with Lender Price

Regions Bank has announced a new agreement with fintech mortgage and consumer digital lending technology platform provider, Lender Price. This agreement, which encompasses both a working relationship and an equity investment in the company, promises to provide additional technology and resources for Regions to deploy in its efforts to enhance Regions’ digital lending. – News release

Doster completes Cullman Regional Med project

Doster Construction Co. recently completed the new 5th Floor project at Cullman Regional Medical Center. The 15,264 square-foot vertical expansion included 30 patient beds, a central nurses station and a family waiting room. The project will make a significant economic contribution to the Cullman community, adding 100 permanent jobs when peak capacity is reached. – News release

Work begins on 274-unit apartment complex at Town Madison

Town Madison developer Louis Breland and his development partners broke ground Thursday on a new apartment complex planned for the big mixed-use development under way in Madison. The project, The Station at Town Madison, will have 274 units and should be ready by mid-2019. Tynes Development Corp. and a "BL Harbert related partnership" called B&J, LLC are the developers. – AL.com

Encompass Health presents $250K gift to Samford

Samford University’s School of Health Professions recently received a $250,000 gift from Encompass Health Corp. of Birmingham to endow a scholarship for minority students who are inspired to follow their calling to serve others through health professions, positively influencing health care and society. – News release

The Bama’s Best Pork Ribs Contest is in its final stage as the Final Four restaurants are pitted against each other during judging April 18-19. Finalists are Heard’s BBQ & Soul Food in Maplesville; Whillard’s BBQ & Grill in Marion; Wiley’s Smuteye Grill in Banks; and Smokin’ on the Boulevard in Florence. The Alabama Pork Producers sponsors the contest, which smoked out more than 900 nominations for over 100 restaurants on the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Facebook and Instagram pages this spring. – ALFA

VW names new top boss in preparation for corporate overhaul

Volkswagen has chosen Herbert Diess as its new chief executive in an overhaul that includes streamlining the company’s multiple car brands into just three groups while preparing its truck business for a potential listing. The plans were announced after Volkswagen board of directors ousted Matthias Mueller as CEO and discussed ways to overhaul the company, which spans motorbikes, buses, trucks and passenger car brands including Ducati, Bentley, Porsche, Audi and Scania. – Reuters
